Alvarion is a leader in providing wireless broadband systems. With more than three million units deployed in 150 countries, the company believes it leads the WiMAX market with the greatest number of WiMAX deployments worldwide. WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability of Microwave Access) is a wireless broadband technology that provides an alternative to wired broadband such as cable and DSL. Alvarion supplies carriers, ISPs, and private network operators with WiMAX standard and other wireless broadband solutions. Currently the company’s business is mainly focused on solutions based on the WiMAX standard for primary wireless broadband access. In addition, it continues to sell its non-WiMAX products. Its strategy is to leverage its experience in both current WiMAX markets and non-standard broadband wireless access (BWA). Extending coverage of mobile networks to developing countries and other hard to serve areas, the company offers mobile network solutions that feature a low cost of entry, local switching, and integrated value-added service (VAS) functionality. Alvarion Ltd was incorporated in September 1992 under the laws of the state of Israel. Since its inception, the company has devoted substantially all of its resources to the design, development, manufacturing and marketing of wireless products. The company's shares began trading on the NASDAQ National Market in March 2000. In August 2001, Alvarion's ordinary shares also began to trade on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. As of April 1, 2007 no person or entity beneficially owned more than 5% of Alvarion's outstanding ordinary shares.
