Lucent Technologies - Company Report
|
Company Reports are concise reports that provide a review of the company's activities, corporate strategy and recent developments.
Lucent Technologies was incorporated in 1995. The company was formed from the systems and technology units that were formerly part of AT&T Corp, including the research and development capabilities of Bell Laboratories (Bell Labs), and were spun off by AT&T in September 1996. Lucent operates through three business segments: Mobility Solutions; Integration Network Solutions (INS); and, Lucent Worldwide Services. Mobility provides software and wireless equipment to support radio access and core networks. INS provides a broad range of software and wireline equipment related to voice networking (primarily consisting of switching products, which are sometimes referred to as convergence solutions), data and network management (primarily consisting of access and related data networking equipment and operations support software) and optical networking. Services provides deployment, maintenance, professional and managed services in support of both product offerings as well as multivendor networks. In April 2005, Lucent announced a restructuring of its business, which will see the merger of its mobility and wireline businesses into a single unit called the Network Solutions Group. These changes will impact the company's current reportable segment structure beginning in fiscal 2006. Lucent's shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
