QUALCOMM Inc designs, manufactures, and markets digital wireless telecommunications product and services based on its CDMA technology and other technologies. The company derives revenue principally from sales of integrated circuit products, from licence fees and royalties for use of its intellectual property, from services and related hardware sales and from software development and licensing and related services.

The company conducts business primarily through four reportable segments. These segments are: QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies (QCT), QUALCOMM Technology Licensing (QTL), QUALCOMM Wireless & Internet (QWI), and QUALCOMM Strategic Initiatives (QSI).

QUALCOMM, which commenced operations in July 1985, initially providing contract research and development services and limited product manufacturing, is a leader in the field of code division multiple access (CDMA) technology and a major developer and supplier of CDMA-based voice and data communications products and services. In addition to gaining revenue from CDMA licensing and royalties, QUALCOMM is involved in developing and producing CDMA chipsets and system software, satellite-based systems, and what are described as “new innovations” in wireless data products and
applications.
