China Telecom Corporation Ltd (China Telecom) is a joint stock limited company established by China Telecommunications Corporation as its sole subsidiary on September 10, 2002.

China Telecom provides wireline telecommunications services in 20 provinces/autonomous regions and municipalities of China. The service regions consist of Shanghai Municipality, Guangdong Province, Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province, Anhui Province, Fujian Province, Jiangxi Province, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Chongqing Municipality, Sichuan Province, Hubei Province, Hunan Province, Hainan Province, Guizhou Province, Yunnan Province, Shaanxi Province, Gansu Province, Qinghai Province, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

In 2002, China Telecom successfully completed its corporate restructuring and global initial public offering (IPO) with its H shares listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and its American depository shares (ADS) listed on the New York Stock Exchange in November 2002. As of June 15, 2007, China Telecom's domestic share capital was held by: China Telecommunications Corporation (70.89%), Guangdong Rising Assets Management Co Ltd (6.94%), Jiangsu Guoxin Investment Group Co Ltd (1.18%), Zhejiang Financial Development Company (2.64%), Fujian State-owned Assets Investment Holdings Co Ltd (1.20%), and public shareholders (17.15%).
