The France Telecom Group, with its principal subsidiaries Orange, Amena (the Spanish mobile operator acquired in November 2005), the TP Group (the Polish telecommunications operator TP S.A. and its subsidiaries), Equant and the PageJaunes Group, offers its consumers, business customers and other telecommunications operators a broad selection of services ranging from fixed-line and mobile telephony, data transmission, Internet and multimedia services and other value-added services. In July 2006, France Telecom entered into exclusive talks concerning the sale of its 54% stake in its directories subsidiary, PagesJaunes Group to Kohlberg, Kravis Roberts & Co Ltd (KKR).

France Telecom, one of the world's leading telecommunications operators, served 147 million customers on five continents (220 countries or territories) as of March 31, 2006.

In June 2005, France Telecom launched the NExT (New Experience in Telecommunications) programme to allow the Group to pursue its transformation towards the integrated operator model and to make France Telecom the benchmark for new telecommunications services in Europe. On June 1, 2006, Orange thus became the single brand for Internet, television and mobile in France and the UK, and Orange Business Services the brand name for the services offered to businesses worldwide. France Telecom is the number two mobile operator and Internet services provider in Europe and among the world leaders in providing telecommunication services to multinational companies.

As of March 31, 2006, the French State directly or indirectly held 32.45% of the capital and voting rights of France Telecom. The remaining shares were held by the Public (63.91%) and Employees (3.64%).
