Orascom Telecom Holding SAE (OTH), which is part of the Orascom Group, was established in 1998 and has grown to become a major player in the global telecommunications market.

OTH is a mobile telecommunications company with GSM operations in seven markets in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. The company operates GSM networks in Algeria (Djezzy), Pakistan (Mobilink), Egypt (Mobinil), Tunisia (Tunisiana), Iraq (Iraqna), Bangladesh (Banglalink), and Zimbabwe (Telecel Zimbabwe). The company also provides telecommunications support services, including satellite and Internet, mainly supporting its own operations. In March 2005, OTH won a licence to build and operate a national fixed-line network in Algeria. In December 2005, OTH entered into a strategic partnership with Hong Kong-based Hutchison Whampoa, which included OTH acquiring a 19.3% interest in Hutchison Telecommunications International Ltd (HTIL), which has operations in eight countries.

As of December 31, 2006, Weather Investments SPA owned 50% plus one share of the shares of Orascom Telecom, and 50% minus one share were publicly traded. Weather Investment SPA is 97%-owned by Weather Investments II S.a.r.l. (Weather II), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Sawiris family and controlled by Mr Naguib Sawiris, of Egypt.

Orascom Telecom’s shares are traded on the Cairo and Alexandria Stock Exchange and the London Stock Exchange.
