Telekom Malaysia (TM) is the largest integrated telecommunications solutions provider in Malaysia and one of Asia's leading communications companies. As an integrated telecommunications company, TM offers a range of fixed-line, mobile, data, Internet and multimedia services and solutions. TM's mobile arm, Celcom, is Malaysia's leading mobile communications provider. TM focuses its overseas operations in the Asia region and as of May 2007, had investments in nine markets: Indonesia, Singapore, Cambodia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, and Iran. These businesses mainly focus on the mobile market. Complementing its investments abroad, the international arm of TM's wholesale business, TM Global, provides a range of voice, international bandwidth, IP and data services capacity across six continents, namely Asia, Europe, the Americas, Oceania, the Middle East, and Africa. As part of the Malaysian government's privatisation plans of the early-1980s, it was decided in 1984 that the operator, Jabatan Telekom Malaysia (JTM), should be separated from the jurisdiction of the regulator, the Ministry of Energy, Telecommunications, and Posts. The network operating responsibilities of JTM were transferred to a new organisation, Syarikat Telekom Malaysia Berhad (STM), on October 12, 1984. On May 27, 1991, STM officially changed its name to Telekom Malaysia. The company has been listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange since November 1990. As of March 31, 2007, the Malaysian government, through various companies, directly and indirectly held a 42.99% stake in Telekom Malaysia. Foreign ownership amounted to 12.97%.
